+ WHAT IS THE BLACK WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT CONFERENCE?

The theme for the 2023 BWEC Conference is Rise, Reawaken, Rediscover: A Black Woman’s Renaissance. Our goal is to embolden and uplift Black women and inspire community-building between us. This year we hope to achieve this goal by holding an entirely in-person Conference featuring Black women trailblazers from a wide range of professions.

+ WHEN WILL THE BLACK WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT CONFERENCE BEGIN?

The BWEC takes place on Friday and Saturday, March 10th and 11th, 2023. Please refer here for the schedule.

+ WHERE WILL THE EVENTS BE HELD?

The 3rd Annual Black Women’s Empowerment Conference (BWEC) will be held on Tufts University’s Medford/Somerville Campus. Registration will be held on Friday, March 10th at the Interfaith Center (58 Winthrop St, Medford). Saturday’s keynote address and subsequent sessions will be held in Barnum Hall on Packard Avenue. Attendees will receive clear directions when they arrive on campus.

+ WHERE CAN I PARK ON CAMPUS?

There’s parking available in the Dowling Hall Garage located at 419 Boston Ave, Medford, MA. If you want to take public transportation, the (recently opened) green line stops at the Joyce Cummings Center. From there, please refer to our map and signage for further guidance. We’ll do our best to direct you!

+WHAT TIME IS REGISTRATION?

We’ll hold registration on Friday, March 10th from 5-6:30 in the Interfaith Center. From 6:30-8, we’ll be doing a “Paint n Pose” activity.

+ WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO THE BLACK WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT CONFERENCE?

Please plan to dress comfortable-casual for the duration of the conference. Wear what feels good to you! Please keep in mind that there’s a dance session, so wear clothes you can move in if you plan to attend.

+HOW MUCH DOES THE CONFERENCE COST TO ATTEND?

The conference is free!


+ WILL THERE BE FOOD?

Yes! We’ll have light refreshments during registration. Lunch and dinner on Saturday will be catered by local Black-owned businesses.

+ I HAVE A FRIEND WHO DOESN’T GO TO SCHOOL IN THE BOSTON AREA WHO WANTS TO ATTEND. CAN THEY COME?

Yes! Though we are doing targeted advertising to Boston-area schools, we welcome all Black women and femme undergraduate and graduate students.
